about

Where to start? This music definitely was inspired by a love for the band Deerhoof. The thing I like about their music is the way everything sounds inside out harmonically, but still balanced. It's unpredictible yet logical. Happy yet dissonant. I wanted to create a noise jazz version of that band, with some Nels Cline, Degenerate Art Ensemble and Sonic Youth thrown in there too.

A few years go by and I get an all star group of West Coast improv gurus together to record. Having just gone through a break up with my girlfriend at the time, I remember a particularly difficult session, running to the bathroom between takes to bawl my eyes out (boo hoo). The playing was emotionally tumultuous and melodramatic. Not my most polished performance, but perhaps a window into a state of mind. I decided to keep it mostly as is, doing a few over dubs to get rid of some particularly offense sounding notes.

Every few months I would bring other musicians in to play on a track or two. And then.... well I just let it sit around gathering dust. Until now... I hope you enjoy. It is short, but certainly quite the whirlwind of sounds...

Aaron Novik San Francisco, California

I enjoy playing with genre and have a hard time defining/confining myself. In the past few years I have written music for different projects that could be defined as pop songs, chamber classical, psychedelic jazz, klezmer folk and even heavy metal. Within these obviously disparate stylistic choices are a unifying compositional esthetic that slowly reveals itself the more projects you hear of mine. ... more
